2 or 3 pearl buttons about 8 mm or similar small decorative button.

This is a fishnet pattern often used for market bags and simple lace collars. It is a good beginner crochet project

WORK SIDE EDGE
Work 2 rows of chain 3 stitches in the side of the collar, turning the corner.
This is your last edge stitch. Now you will work the edge of the piece.
Turn corner at end of piece. Chain 3, join to edge of row 5 with sc.
Chain another 3, join to end of row 3 with sc;
chain another 3, join to end of row 1 with sc.
Now work your way back to bottom edge of piece:
Chain 3, join to end of row 3 with sc
Chain 3, join to end of row 5 with sc
Chain 3, join to end of row 8 with sc.
This creates holes for buttons.

Row 9.
Pc-picot
Turn edge, chain 4, put fingernail on 4th chain, chain another 3 sts, insert hook in 4th chain, join together with slip st to form pc, chain 4, sc to next ch 7 space. Repeat to end. Double crochet.

At the end of Row 9 you can do two rose of chain 3 stitches on this side edge for a nicer look.

Suggestions:

take your time and make sure all your stitches are even and relatively small, esp. when you do the sc stitches.

Now block the pattern. Pulling it apart every inch or so along it’s width.

Pin it to a padded board and using a steam iron and starch, gently press the collar. If you are using glitter or sequin thread or yarn, be sure to set the steam on the lowest setting at which your iron will make steam or you can destroy the glittery part of the thread and/or sequins.

Collar should be hand washed, of course, rolled in a towel to remove excess water. Do not wring or twist. Lay flat on padded board to dry and block into shape using straight pins if necessary.
